  background

The first public celebrations of the Milad-un-Nabi century took place in Egypt at the end of the eleventh century.  It was primarily a festival of the Shia ruling class.  The ceremonies featured recitations of the Koran, animal sacrifices, public sermons and invitations.

The first public gathering of Milad-un-Nabi by Sunnis took place in Syria in the 12th century under the rule of Nur al-Din Zangi.  In 1910, it was officially declared a national holiday in the Ottoman Empire.  Milad-un-Nabi is now an official holiday in many Muslim countries around the world.

  Signs

Green pen marks are often seen in Milad-un-Nabi processions, shrines and mosques.  Green is a color associated with Nabi Karim with which are their favorite colors.  The Prophet is said to have chosen the green flag to represent the Islamic Republic in his lifetime.  On the occasion of Rabi-ul-Awwal, candles and oil lamps have been lit to welcome the arrival of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and to celebrate his birth happily.

Muslims use the lunar calendar, which is different from the Gregorian calendar used around the world.  This means that the Gregorian history of Muslim holidays varies slightly from year to year.  Which falls at the beginning of 11 days each year .....

The Islamic calendar is based on the moon.  It is also known as the Hijri calendar, it started after the Hijrah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) from Madinah.  Each month begins at the end of the previous month on the lunar eclipse.  Once the moon appears, the new month begins.  Each month begins with a new lunar cycle.  Therefore, the Muslim calendar offers only a temporary overview of the coming Islamic dates as the beginning of each month is conditional on the sighting of the moon.  Rabi-ul-Awal is the third month of the Islamic calendar.

In Arabic, the word "Rabi" means spring, while "Awal" means first.  Therefore, in general, Rabi-ul-Awal is translated into the first spring.  Since Rabi-ul-Awal is a month in the lunar calendar, it can occur in any season.  Therefore, the name Rabi-ul-Awal has symbolic significance because it is not a symbol of the actual season of spring but a sign of the arrival of happiness (spring) or especially depression after the disappointment of winter.

Rabi-ul-Awal is named because even before the birth of the Holy Prophet (SAW) people were living in a state of ignorance and darkness.  They worshiped different gods.  They were deviating from the path of Allah.  When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was born, he brought with him the message of truth, the message of Allaah, solidarity.  This message led people to the path of enlightenment, and helped them to distinguish between right and wrong.

The Holy Prophet (SAW) is a manifestation of perfection.  She is a role model chosen for us by Allah and we have to follow her Sunnah to live an ideal life which is not only something that has been explained to us through religion but in fact all  It is beneficial for human beings if we were to act on it.

"Surely there has been a good example for you in the Messenger of Allah, who hopes for Allah and the Last Day, and [who] remembers Allah often."  (Qur'an 33:21)

The month of Rabi-ul-Awwal has a special significance in Islam because Muslims believe that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was also born in this month, although there is no consensus on its actual date.  Muslims often celebrate it on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal, and this day is often called Eid Milad-un-Nabi.  The birth of the Prophet (peace be upon him) was celebrated by Muslims all over the world with great enthusiasm.  Many Muslims celebrate Milad throughout the month in memory of the Holy Prophet (SAW).
